Getting Drivers fit to Drive
Driving is a task that needs high levels of mental and physical alertness. In comparison to other routine activity, the degree of concentration needed in handling a car is great. It requires drivers to capably and confidently deal with changing traffic conditions and to be ready at all times for unanticipated dangers that the road may present. In emergency situations, for instance, drivers must be mentally alert and physically fit to sustain high degree of concentration and presence of mind. Hence, it is a must for every motorist to have good mental and physical health.
To ensure this, some measures should be taken. One is to provide excellent driving environment for drivers, like ensuring comfortable seats, easy-to-reach controls, and good ventilation. The concentration of a driver is often affected by less obvious factors, namely stress and nervous tension. These may be caused by worries about the vehicle itself. So to reduce tension and stress, car owners must have their vehicles regularly maintained and checked for repair. Doing so will help drivers feel comfortable, enabling them to focus their attention on the road.
Another way to make sure that drivers are fit to drive is through exercise. As a matter of fact, there are simple exercises that one can do during stops to relieve the body from nervous tension and fatigue. Relaxing the shoulders and head back for three to five seconds can alleviate pain on the back of the neck. Rotating shoulders and arms can release tension while clenching fist and flexing the biceps can improve the condition of the arms and hands. Doing these exercise routines before travel and every stop will help one ensure a smooth driving experience.
